Os cabelos se regeneram ao longo da vida, mas o que acontece quando esse processo fica mais lento? O afinamento do couro cabeludo é uma condição que se desenvolve bem tarde na vida, e na perimenopausa, devido ao aumento do estresse e à redução da produção de hormônios, o cabelo também enfraquece e começa a apresentar os primeiros sinais de flacidez.

A pesquisa sugere que a perda de cabelo durante a menopausa é mesmo resultado de um desequilíbrio hormonal, especificamente, está relacionado a uma produção reduzida de estrogênio e progesterona que ajudam o cabelo a crescer mais rápido e a permanecer na cabeça por mais tempo.

As causas podem ser endógenas (de origem interna):

– Além das hormonais, deficiências alimentares ou dietas pobres em alguns nutrientes básicos como proteínas, vitaminas ou minerais, que modificam o processo de queratinização, produzem o enfraquecimento e adelgaçamento dos fios.
– Uma origem genética pode ser adicionada, visto que o cabelo seco é consequência de fatores hereditários de forma semelhante ao que acontece, por exemplo, com os cabelos finos.
– Por ultimo, a produção sebácea. A produção insuficiente de sebo é a causa mais comum de cabelo seco e nestes casos, lavar o cabelo com demasiada frequência contribui para torná-lo ainda mais seco e opaco.
